Idea
Where the idea comes from
Patients ask about procedures, not about devices. Someone who has laser eye surgery says LASIK or SMILE, not the name of the laser. For lens surgery with the nanolaser there has been no such term so far. Every practice explained the procedure in its own words, with its own images and its own messages, and in other countries distributors developed their material from scratch each time.
Christin Bartlog and Zoe Geiß of A.R.C. Laser turned this into a discussion starter for the User Meeting 2026: a shared procedure brand, led by A.R.C. Laser, available to all users, nationally and internationally. The concept exists as a discussion draft and already contains the name, logo, colors, claims, imagery and the division of roles. This portal develops the draft into a binding set of rules so that everything created under the name from now on fits together.
What the brand is meant to do. The patient decides on the premium lens. NanoPURE is the reason to have it implanted at this particular practice. The brand makes the procedure recognizable, gives practices ready-made material and saves every market the cost of its own development.
Starting point
Procedure brands shape the market
Patients know terms like LASIK or SMILE by name. For lens surgery with the nanolaser, no such term exists.
Every practice communicates differently
Different names, images and messages. Patients do not recognize the procedure from one practice to the next.
No shared presence internationally
Distributors and users in other countries develop their material anew each time, with their own effort and their own result.
The technology behind it is the NanoLaser CETUS: ultrashort pulses of an Nd:YAG laser in the nanosecond range are fully absorbed in the titanium needle of the single-use probe. A small flash of light (plasma) forms in the cavity and supplies the energy to break up the lens. The lens material is aspirated through the existing fluidics, so the familiar workflow remains. No ultrasound, no ultrasonic oscillation of the needle, no ultrasonic heat at the incision. The clinical evidence and its limits are described in the Regulatory section.

What happens next
The concept was put up for discussion at the User Meeting 2026. Four questions were on the table: Would you use a shared procedure brand in your practice? Which components would be most valuable? How do you like NanoPURE as a name? What do you need in order to actively talk to patients about the procedure?
- Evaluate feedbackRight after the user meeting. Responses on name, components and needs.
- Develop the conceptA.R.C. Laser. Rules, logo system, claims, regulatory review. This portal.
- Pilot with interested practicesUse the material in a few practices, train the consultation, gather experience.
- National and international rolloutPackage for distributors, languages of the target markets, country-specific review.
Brand
Brand core
Target group
People aged about 50 and up
Cataract and refractive lens exchange for presbyopia. People who want to see well and make a conscious decision for treatment.
Promise
Without ultrasound, with laser
Lens surgery with low energy input. The draft says “precise and gentle with a premium claim”; “precise” is not substantiated and is no longer used, see Changes.
Evidence
NanoLaser CETUS
Laser-based lens fragmentation instead of ultrasound. The technology is the reason the promise holds.
All statements directed at patients are reviewed for regulatory compliance before use (German Health Advertising Act, Medical Device Regulation, professional code for physicians). See Regulatory.
Positioning
Guiding statement
“Your premium lens deserves a gentle procedure.”
Patients decide on the premium lens. NanoPURE is the reason to have it implanted at this practice.
Review finding: not usable in this form. The guiding statement ties the benefit of the procedure to the purchase of a premium lens and promises “gentle” without evidence (Sections 3 and 11 (1) no. 7 HWG, Section 5 UWG, Section 27 MBO-Ä). Recommended version for the pilot: “For every lens. Without ultrasound.” The idea stays (the procedure is the reason to have surgery at this practice), the link to the out-of-pocket upgrade is dropped.
The positioning does not start with the device but with the decision the patient makes anyway. Someone who invests in a premium lens wants it implanted gently. NanoPURE connects the two: the gentle procedure and the high-quality lens. Competitors are neither named nor disparaged. The procedure explains itself through its own properties.
Attitude and character
NanoPURE speaks like an experienced physician who takes her time: competent, calm, attentive. Medically precise, but never cold. The design follows the same attitude: light, soft, plenty of air, no hard edges, no signal colors.
| This is NanoPURE | This is not NanoPURE |
|---|---|
| Competent: explains, substantiates, sticks to the facts | Lecturing, with jargon left untranslated |
| Gentle: calm images, round shapes, light surfaces | Loud, garish, with laser beams and close-ups of the eye |
| Approachable: addresses people, not cases | Salesy, with superlatives and pressure |
| Reliable: one voice in every practice and every country | Arbitrary, different from practice to practice |
| High quality: premium through restraint | Luxurious, with gold, gloss and pathos |
Name and spelling
The brand is called NanoPURE. One word, no space, Nano with a capital N and lowercase letters, PURE in capitals. The word carries the procedure within it:
P
Precise. Assigned this way in the draft; “precise” is not supported by data for the nanolaser and could be confused with the femtosecond laser. The P needs a new meaning (for example Pulse, the nanosecond pulse) or the acronym is dropped.
U
Ultrasound-free. No vibration, no heat in the eye.
R
Resolution. The nanolaser dissolves the lens.
E
Extraction. The lens material is aspirated.
- Correct in running text: NanoPURE
- Correct with tier: NanoPURE pro (pro in lowercase, with a space)
- Correct as a procedure description: NanoPURE, lens surgery with the NanoLaser CETUS
- Nanopure, NanoPure, Nano PURE, Nano-PURE, NANOPURE
- NanoPURE Pro, NanoPURE PRO, NanoPURE-pro
- “the NanoPURE” as a device name. NanoPURE is the procedure, the device is called CETUS.
- Hyphenating the name at a line break or splitting it into syllables.
In technical identifiers everything stays lowercase: nanopure in file names, addresses
and domains. That is the boundary between running text and identifier, not a contradiction of the
spelling rule.
The device keeps its name: NanoLaser CETUS (toward professional audiences also Nanolaser Cetus in running text). Toward patients it is called the nanolaser, never the model designation alone.
NanoPURE and NanoPURE pro
The brand has two tiers. They do not differ in the procedure but in the lens that is implanted. This keeps the promise the same, and the practice can name the tier that suits the patient.
Lens surgery with the NanoLaser CETUS and a standard lens
Lens surgery with the NanoLaser CETUS and a premium lens
- Both tiers carry the same symbol and the same wordmark. The suffix pro follows in a light weight and a muted color.
- In patient communication both tiers are shown side by side so that the choice of lens becomes visible as a decision.
- A tier is not a statement about the quality of the procedure. The procedure is the same in both cases.
Review finding: yellow to red. A procedure brand with a “pro” tier creates the impression of a better operation even though only the lens differs, and turns the brand into a sales tool for an out-of-pocket service (Section 5 UWG, Section 3 HWG, Section 27 MBO-Ä). At Zeiss, “SMILE pro” is a device generation, not a co-payment tier. Cleaner: NanoPURE as one brand, with the lens choice named separately (“NanoPURE with a multifocal lens”). Decision rests with A.R.C. Laser, see Open items.
Brand architecture
Three names, three roles. They are not mixed and do not replace one another.
Procedure
NanoPUREThe brand toward patients and practices. What you receive at the practice and what you ask for.
Device
NanoLaser CETUSThe product. Named toward professional audiences, explained to patients only as “the nanolaser”.
- On patient material NanoPURE leads, A.R.C. Laser appears small as the sender, CETUS appears in an explanatory role.
- On professional material NanoPURE leads together with CETUS, A.R.C. Laser as the sender.
- On practice material the practice is added: name, contact details, the practice logo on request. See Applications.
- The A.R.C. Laser brand portal (brand.arclaser.cloud) governs the sender. This portal governs everything called NanoPURE.
Logo
The symbol
An arc and seven dots. The arc stands for the lens, the dots for its gentle dissolution by the nanolaser. The dots continue the arc, become smaller and paler and dissolve toward the right. The symbol tells the procedure in one image, without an eye, without a beam, without a device.
The idea
Arc equals lens, dots equal dissolution. The symbol is a gesture, not a diagram.
The colors
Navy for trust, petrol for medicine and clarity. On a dark background, petrol becomes mint.
Versatile
Works small, in one color and on light as well as dark backgrounds. The dots keep their opacity.
Permitted versions
Wordmark
Symbol plus lettering. First choice. In color on light, reversed on dark.
Wordmark pro
Like the wordmark, with the suffix pro. Only where the tier with a premium lens is meant.
Symbol alone
For app icons, profile pictures, small areas and as a repetition when the wordmark already appears on the same page.
One color
All navy or all white when only one color is possible (stamp, engraving, fax, single-color print). The dots keep their gradation through opacity.
Clear space and minimum sizes
The unit of measure is x, the stroke width of the arc. The clear space all around is 2 x. Nothing is placed in this space: no text, no other logo, no image edge.
| Version | Screen | |
|---|---|---|
| Wordmark | 120 px wide | 30 mm wide |
| Wordmark pro | 140 px wide | 35 mm wide |
| Symbol alone | 24 px high | 6 mm high |
| App icon | 32 px edge length | not applicable |
Below these sizes the small dots become invisible and the brand looks unfinished. If there is less room, use the symbol alone or leave out the logo and spell out the name.
What is not allowed
- Rearranging symbol and lettering, for example stacking the symbol above the lettering. Only the horizontal version exists.
- Moving, adding, removing or equalizing the dots. The dissolution is the message.
- Swapping the colors: no petrol arc with navy dots, no mint on white.
- Applying gradients, shadows, outlines, 3D effects or gloss to the logo.
- Placing the logo on busy photos, close-ups of eyes or surfaces with too little contrast.
- Reading the arc as the letter C or using it as a bracket around text.
- Combining the logo with the A.R.C. Laser logo or a practice logo into a new symbol.
- Retyping the lettering in another typeface. The lettering exists as a path and is used only as a file.
Design
Color
Two brand colors, one light color, lots of surface. Navy carries trust and text, petrol carries medicine, clarity and the accent. Mint is the light on a dark background. Everything else is light, matte and calm.
#13284ARGB 19 40 74
Trust. Text, headings, dark surfaces, the arc.
#1F6F6FRGB 31 111 111
Medicine, clarity. The dots, PURE, links, accents.
#8FD1C8RGB 143 209 200
Light. Dots and PURE on a dark background. Never as text on white.
#DDEFECRGB 221 239 236
Calm surface. Boxes, highlights, table rows.
#F6F7F4RGB 246 247 244
Page background. Warm, matte light gray instead of pure white.
#FDFDFBRGB 253 253 251
Cards and surfaces that stand out from the background.
#4A5568RGB 74 85 104
Secondary running text, captions.
#7A8AA6RGB 122 138 166
The suffix pro, dimension lines, secondary text. Large sizes only.
#DCE2E8RGB 220 226 232
Borders, dividers, table rules.
Distribution
Mist and paper dominate a page. Navy carries text and individual surfaces. Petrol is the accent and appears sparingly: dots, highlights, links, a button. Mint appears only on navy. There is no signal color in the brand system. Red appears only in interfaces where an actual error is reported.
Contrast
| Combination | Contrast | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Navy on mist | 13.7 : 1 | Any text |
| Petrol on white | 5.9 : 1 | Text from 14 px, links, eyebrows |
| Slate on mist | 7.0 : 1 | Any text |
| Steel on white | 3.5 : 1 | Large type only, from 24 px, or bold from 19 px |
| Mint on navy | 8.5 : 1 | Text and accents on a dark background |
| Mint on white | 1.7 : 1 | No type. Only as a surface or dot. |
| White on petrol | 5.9 : 1 | Buttons and surfaces with text |
For offset printing the values in the color package are approximations. Before a print run, check a press proof against the screen color; navy tends toward violet in CMYK, petrol toward green. Pantone values have not yet been defined, see Open items.
Type
Two cuts of one family: IBM Plex Serif for headings and guiding statements, IBM Plex Sans for text, tables, interfaces and the lettering. The serif gives the brand its calm, medically serious voice, the sans keeps everything legible. Both are freely available (SIL Open Font License), so they can be used in print, web and practice material without license fees.
Gentle on the eye. Laser instead of ultrasound.
IBM Plex Serif Medium for headings, IBM Plex Sans Regular for text. Numerals 0123456789, umlauts äöüß.
Plex Serif in 400, 500 and 600. Plex Sans as a variable font from 100 to 700, used in 400, 500 and 600.
Rules
- Headings in Serif, Medium weight (500), never bold. Capitals only in the eyebrow.
- Running text in Sans Regular, line length 55 to 75 characters, line height 1.5 to 1.65.
- Emphasis in text with Semibold (600), not with color, not with underlining.
- Eyebrows in Sans Semibold, capitals, letter-spaced by 0.12 em, in petrol.
- No italics for headings. Italics only for foreign words and third-party brand names in text.
Substitutes in Office and email
Where IBM Plex cannot be installed (email clients, third-party computers), the rule is: Georgia for headings, Arial for text. For Microsoft Office at the practice, the typeface is included in the font package and installed once. Never mix in Calibri or Times New Roman.
Brand element: the dots
The dissolving dots from the symbol are the element that connects all applications. They run as a pattern along the edge of an image, as a divider between sections, as a background on dark surfaces and as motion on screen. They always tell the same story: something dissolves gently.
- The pattern fades out, it never fills an entire surface. The density decreases in one direction.
- In print, at most one edge per page. On screen, one edge per stage.
- As a divider between sections, a short row of dots that disappears toward the right. No solid lines.
- In motion the dots appear one after another, gently, without a jump. Users who prefer reduced motion see the result immediately.
- The dots are never decoration on photos of people and never on the eye.
Imagery
Light, calm, approachable: life with good vision. The images do not show the procedure but what becomes easy again afterward. People in their fifties and sixties, natural light, plenty of white space, muted colors that go with navy and petrol.
Premium moments
Golf, sailing, art gallery, museum. Main motifs of patient communication, especially for NanoPURE pro.
Everyday life
Reading on a tablet, driving at dusk. Supplementary, for example in social media.
Trust
Physician and patient in conversation as equals, calm practice atmosphere. Consultation, brochure, physician finder.
Technology
CETUS and the single-use probe, photographed brightly, with plenty of white space. Professional audiences, trade shows, product pages.
| Like this | Not like this |
|---|---|
| Real people, real practices, with consent | Actors as physicians, stock photos with white coats and crossed arms |
| Soft depth of field, natural light, warm skin tones | Blue studio lighting, high gloss, hard shadows |
| The result: reading, driving, seeing | Eye close-ups with laser beams, surgical scenes in patient communication |
| The device light and calm, as a tool of the practice | The device as a hero with light effects |
| A person taking off their glasses and reading | Glasses being thrown away, before-and-after images |
Until real photos are available, no illustrations or AI images are used as a substitute in printed material. For drafts, placeholders with a color surface and an image description are correct. The photo production is an open item.
Language
Tone and messages
NanoPURE explains. Short sentences, active verbs, concrete words. The patient is addressed directly as “you”, never as “patients” in a direct conversation. Technical terms are translated, not avoided: “the natural lens is gently dissolved” instead of “lens fragmentation”.
| We say | We do not say |
|---|---|
| gentle, careful, precise, calm | revolutionary, unique, painless, risk-free |
| laser instead of ultrasound | better than ultrasound, the better method |
| your natural lens is dissolved and aspirated | shattered, destroyed, vaporized |
| cataract, age-related loss of near vision | phacoemulsification, presbyopia (in patient text without explanation) |
| your eye doctor discusses with you whether the procedure is suitable for you | suitable for everyone, without side effects |
| premium lens, standard lens | luxury lens, cheap lens, insurance lens |
Two audiences, one brand
Toward patients, NanoPURE talks about the experience: gentle, without ultrasound, easy on the cornea. Toward professional audiences, NanoPURE talks about clinical results and workflow: energy input, endothelium, single-use probe, compatibility. Both levels carry the same brand and the same colors, but never the same sentences. Professional arguments do not belong on patient material.
Claims
Four messages, one each for patients and professional audiences in German and English. They are used verbatim and not varied. Further languages are derived from the English version and reviewed for each country.

Arguments for professional audiences
Clinical
- No ultrasonic oscillation of the needle
- No ultrasonic heat at the incision1
- Lower energy input1
- Lower endothelial cell loss in studies1
Workflow
- Single-use probe: ready to use immediately, no reprocessing risk
- Uses the existing fluidics, the familiar workflow remains
- Compatible with common phaco systems2
1 Footnote under Section 6 HWG: Tanev 2016 (J Cataract Refract Surg 42:725) and Zbiba 2023 (Front Med, DOI 10.3389/fmed.2023.1097404), with the note that the randomized study Sauder 2024 did not find the difference significant. 2 The compatibility list is maintained by A.R.C. Laser and cited on the material. Both details must be inserted before printing, see Regulatory.
Review finding on the claims. “Gentle on the eye” is an efficacy claim without a measurable quantity and rates yellow to red; the safe option is the fact “Without ultrasound. With laser.” “Cornea-friendly” only with a footnote. The professional wording above is already the reviewed version (in the draft: “No vibration”, “No thermal stress”, “Result: lower endothelial cell loss”). Final approval by the legal counsel of A.R.C. Laser.
Style rules
- German texts use real umlauts and ß, never ae, oe, ue or ss as substitutes.
- No dashes as punctuation. Use a comma, a colon or two sentences instead. The middle dot (·) separates keywords in claims and footers.
- Quotation marks: German „so“, English “so”.
- Numbers in text spelled out up to twelve, percent with a space (2.1 %, in German 2,1 %), units with a space (6 mm).
- NanoPURE, NanoPURE pro, NanoLaser CETUS, A.R.C. Laser: always exactly like this. No emojis, no exclamation marks in headings.
- English in American spelling (color, center), like the other English materials of A.R.C. Laser.
- People are referred to as patients and physicians. German texts name both forms (Patientin und Patient, Ärztin und Arzt) without special characters inside the word.
Use
Regulatory
NanoPURE advertises a medical procedure performed with a medical device. This is governed by the German Health Advertising Act (Heilmittelwerbegesetz, HWG), the Medical Device Regulation (MDR, Article 7), the German Act against Unfair Competition (UWG) and, for the practices, the professional code for physicians. A.R.C. Laser reviews and approves every piece of material before a practice uses it. Practices do not alter approved texts.
Do not mislead
Do not promise any effect that is not substantiated. No statement that success is certain. No disparagement of other procedures.
Advertising to the public
Toward patients: no fear-based advertising, no before-and-after images for surgical procedures, no statements by physicians as endorsements, no foreign technical terms without explanation.
Cite the evidence
Clinical statements carry author, year and journal. Quotations from the literature verbatim and with source. The state of the evidence is presented in full, including where it is inconsistent.
Name the sender
A.R.C. Laser GmbH as the manufacturer, the practice as the treating party. Advertising is recognizable as such, including in social media.
The planned statements
Classification under the German Health Advertising Act, the UWG, MDR Article 7 and professional law, as of October 17, 2026. The basis is the evidence file of this portal (state of the studies, legal framework with references). Final approval rests with the legal counsel of A.R.C. Laser. For efficacy claims the strict standard of the German Federal Court of Justice applies: substantiated means randomized and controlled.
| Statement in the draft | Audience | Rating | Reasoning and reviewed version |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sanft zum Auge. / Gentle on the eye. | Patients | yellow, rather red | Efficacy claim without a measurable quantity, mixed endothelial evidence (Section 3 no. 1 HWG). Implies that ultrasound is not gentle (Section 11 no. 7 HWG, Section 6 UWG). Safe: “Without ultrasound. With laser.” |
| Laser instead of ultrasound | Patients | usable | Accurate description, permissible comparison (Section 6 UWG). A note is required that ultrasound may be needed in addition for hard nuclei (Section 5a UWG, MDR Art. 7(c)). |
| hornhautschonend / cornea-friendly | Patients | with footnote | Only as a study result with source (Tanev 2016, Zbiba 2023), not as a property. Not defensible in advertising to the public without a footnote. |
| Ultrasound-free. | Professionals | usable | Fact. Conversion at LOCS 4 and higher goes into the fine print. |
| Endothelium-sparing. | Professionals | with footnote | “Endothelium-sparing in studies*” with a footnote under Section 6 HWG and honest mention of the non-significant RCT 2024. |
| Your premium lens deserves a gentle procedure. | Patients | not usable | Efficacy promise plus link to an out-of-pocket service, promotional for practices (Sections 3 and 11 no. 7 HWG, Section 5 UWG, Section 27 MBO-Ä). Alternative: “For every lens. Without ultrasound.” |
| Precise and gentle lens surgery with a premium claim | Brand core | “precise” red | No study measures precision; precision is the argument of the femtosecond laser (Section 3 no. 3a HWG, MDR Art. 7(b)). “Gentle” yellow as above. |
| No vibration | Professionals | reworded | Accurate as “no ultrasonic oscillation of the needle”. Shock waves and cavitation also occur with the laser. |
| No thermal stress | Professionals | reworded | Substantiated only as: no ultrasonic heat at the incision. Plasma generates local heat, in vivo measurements have not been published. |
| Lower energy input* | Professionals | with footnote | Consistently substantiated: 1.2 J versus 38.5 J (Sauder 2024), 2.16 J versus 245 J (Zbiba 2023). Phrase in orders of magnitude, not as a factor. |
| Result: lower endothelial cell loss* | Professionals | not like this, reworded to yellow | “Result” asserts established causality; the RCT 2024 did not find the difference significant, Juhás 2019 found equivalence. Permissible: “Lower endothelial cell loss after 24 months in two prospective comparative studies (Tanev 2016: 4.0 % versus 9.1 %; Zbiba 2023: 12.7 % versus 20.2 %).” |
| Single-use, ready to use immediately, no reprocessing risk | Professionals | usable | Product property. Refer to the probe only. No statements such as “never an infection” (Section 3 no. 2b HWG). |
| Uses the existing fluidics, the familiar workflow remains | Professionals | with qualification | Accurate. A dedicated program on the phaco machine, longer fragmentation time, more irrigation fluid and a learning curve are part of it. |
| Compatible with common phaco systems** | Professionals | with list | Without a published device list, “common” is indeterminate (Section 5 UWG). Request the list from A.R.C. Laser. |
| For cataract and presbyopia | Patients | reworded | Presbyopia is corrected by the lens, not by the laser (Section 3 no. 1 HWG, MDR Art. 7(a)). Version: “For cataract and for lens exchange in presbyopia”, subject to the intended purpose. |
| NanoPURE pro as a tier with a premium lens | Patients | yellow to red | Impression of a better operation, accusation of commercialization. See Tiers. |
| Statements by physicians, patient testimonials | Patients | not toward patients | Endorsements by healthcare professionals (Section 11 no. 2 HWG). For professional audiences with name, profession, place and date (Section 6 no. 1). Quotations with efficacy claims (“never an infection”) in no material at all. |
State of the evidence in brief
There is no meta-analysis and no systematic review on the nanolaser. Consistently substantiated is the energy input that is one to two orders of magnitude lower. Whether this leads to less endothelial cell loss is plausible but not established: the only published randomized, masked study misses this endpoint. Equally substantiated are the limits: longer fragmentation time, more irrigation fluid, hard nuclei, learning curve. They belong in the material (MDR Art. 7(c), Section 5a UWG).
| Study | Design | n | Endothelial cell loss, laser versus ultrasound | Strength of evidence |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sauder et al. 2024, EC Ophthalmology | randomized, double-masked, 84 days | 68 eyes | 3.5 % versus 7.3 %, not significant; energy 1.2 J versus 38.5 J | high in design, short follow-up, journal not in PubMed |
| Zbiba et al. 2023, Frontiers in Medicine | randomized, unmasked, 24 months | 74 eyes | 12.7 % versus 20.2 %, p < 0.01; surgery time 12.0 versus 10.1 min | medium, independent |
| Tanev et al. 2016, J Cataract Refract Surg | prospective, fellow eye, 2 years | 82 eyes | 4.0 % versus 9.1 %, p < 0.001 | medium, independent, not randomized |
| Juhás 2019, Cesk Slov Oftalmol | fellow eye, 7 days | 40 eyes | 13.5 % versus 19 %, not significant, “equivalent” | low, dissenting voice |
| Breyer et al. 2025, ESCRS | retrospective, 5 years, no control | 30 eyes | 11.8 % after five years (with pre-chop and soft shell) | low |
| Sauder 2019, ASCRS (Healio) | congress report | 72 patients | 2.1 % versus 7.2 % after one year, no p-values | no peer review, not as primary evidence |
What is still missing from the material
- Labeling as advertising and naming the sender on every patient piece (Section 11 no. 9 HWG, Section 5a UWG).
- Notes on risks and limits: longer surgery time, possible conversion to ultrasound for hard nuclei, capsule rupture as in any cataract surgery, no guarantee of spectacle independence.
- Separation of manufacturer and practice: practices may not advertise on behalf of a manufacturer (Section 27 (3) MBO-Ä). Practice material is the practice’s own procedure information; A.R.C. Laser appears in the legal notice and the technology note, not as the advertising sender.
- Physician finder with a note that a listing is neither a recommendation nor a certification (following Alcon’s example), and with published listing criteria. No fee, no advantage for the listing.
- Source sheet that accompanies every version of the material, and a documented approval per version under the MDR (date, reviewer).
- Brand license agreement per practice: scope, design rules, approval, revocation.

- Social media: templates in square and portrait format, imagery as above, dot pattern along one edge, wordmark bottom left, practice name bottom right. Advertising is labeled as such.
- Physician finder: patients find partner practices through a central page run by A.R.C. Laser. Every practice that uses the material is listed there.
- Video: the explanatory video comes from A.R.C. Laser, with subtitles in the respective language. Practices do not edit it.
Roles and rollout
A.R.C. Laser
- Leads the brand and develops it further
- Creates content and templates
- Reviews and approves everything for regulatory compliance
- Rolls the brand out internationally through distributors
Users
- Use the materials in their own practice
- Adapt locally: practice name and contact details
- Give feedback and share experience
- Become visible in the physician finder
International
Developed once, usable in all markets. The content is created in German and English; further languages are translated from the English. Distributors receive a uniform package (logo, colors, type, templates, texts) and have it reviewed under the advertising and medical device law of their country before it is used. Whatever changes in that process goes back to A.R.C. Laser so that the brand stays the same in every country.
Files
Source files
All files are at draft status. They may be used for drafts, coordination and the pilot, not for print runs, until A.R.C. Laser has approved the brand.
Status and maintenance
This portal is the single source. Whoever changes a rule changes it here, in the German version and in the text version for AI tools. Questions and approvals: Christin Bartlog (product management), Maximilian A. Grimm (IT and portal).

| User Meeting 2026 | Discussion draft by Christin Bartlog and Zoe Geiß: name, logo, colors, claims, imagery, roles. |
| October 17, 2026 | Portal created. Logo reconstructed as vector, color system, type, brand element, rules, download packages. Evidence file: procedure, state of the studies, advertising law, trademark check; from these the review findings and the list of changes. |
Trademark check
Search of October 17, 2026 in TMview (EUIPO, DPMA, WIPO and national offices), supplemented by domain lookups. TMview is not an official register; the hits must be verified by legal counsel in EUIPO eSearch plus and DPMAregister. A similarity search (NanoPur, Nanopur, NanoPhaco) has not been carried out.
Key finding: NanoPURE conflicts with a registered EU trademark in Nice class 10. “nanopure” (figurative mark), EUIPO 018351781, owner Wintek Trading (Ningbo) Co., Ltd., classes 9 and 10 (medical masks, gloves, surgical protective clothing, UV lamps for medical purposes), registered May 12, 2021, protected until December 9, 2030. A laser for lens surgery and single-use probes also fall into class 10. Identity of the sign and similarity of goods are given; an application in class 10 would most likely fail in opposition proceedings.
| Trademark | Office, number | Owner | Classes | Status | Relevance |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| nanopure (figurative) | EUIPO 018351781 | Wintek Trading (Ningbo) | 9, 10 | registered until 2030 | high, class 10; in parallel UK 00003671998 and Japan 2020155277 |
| nano PURE | EUIPO 018734657 | Christos Ntolas | 5, 29 | registered 2022 | medium for class 5, low for 10 and 44 |
| PURE NANO | EUIPO 018435224 | Pure Nano Coatings B.V. | 1, 2, 3 | registered 2021 | low |
| NANOPURE | EUIPO 004001699 | Roy Robson Fashion | 24, 25 | expired | none |
| Nanopure | DPMA 399642552 | PharmaSol GmbH | 3, 5 | expired (1999) | none, shows earlier use in a pharmaceutical context |
| NANOPURE | WIPO 1922061, CH 14939/2025 | Levitronix GmbH | 7, 9 | registered | low (pumps), check designated countries |
| NANOPURE | USPTO Reg. 4677711 | Thermo Fisher Scientific | 11 | registered, in use since 1982 | USA: well-known laboratory brand, likelihood-of-confusion arguments possible |
| NanoPure | Canada 2399784-00 | Kaleigh Briggs | 10 | filed May 2025 | Canada, class 10 |
| others | Vietnam, Korea, Japan, India, Brazil, Turkey | among them Sanofi (VN, class 5) | 5, 11, 3 | registered | check country by country |
Domains
| Domain | Status | Finding |
|---|---|---|
| nanopure.de | taken | Placeholder page of a hosting provider, last changed September 20, 2026 |
| nanopure.eu | taken | Parking page of a Slovak hosting provider |
| nanopure.com | taken | Since 2003, parked at Sedo, presumably for sale |
| nanopure-laser.de, nanopure-verfahren.de | available | DENIC |
| nanopure.health | available | Registry has usage policies for health content |
| nanopure.eye | not possible | .eye is not a delegated top-level domain |
Assessment and recommendation
- Trademark risk high: identical EU trademark in class 10, plus UK, Japan, Canada and Thermo Fisher in the USA. An international rollout increases the risk.
- Domains poor: the three obvious domains are taken, only hyphenated and niche variants are available. A lasting disadvantage for a patient brand.
- Descriptive: “Nano” and “Pure” are both descriptive, so the scope of protection of a pure word mark would be narrow.
- Three names for one thing: NanoPURE alongside NanoLaser and CETUS, plus nanolaser.de as the existing patient site.
- Before the pilot: identity and similarity search by a trademark attorney (classes 10, 44, 41, 9, 5, 35; DE, EU, UK, CH, USA, target markets), assessment of the Wintek mark (the use requirement has applied since May 2026, a non-use defense is conceivable), and in parallel a check of alternative names before the name becomes emotionally entrenched. No application, no domain registration, no contact with domain owners before the search.
- If NanoPURE stays: file a combined word and figurative mark with the symbol, classes 44 and 41 first, class 10 after assessment; nanopure-verfahren.de and nanopure.health as minimum protection, main domain under nanolaser.de or arclaser.de.
The name candidates of the second concept are checked following the same pattern, see Concept B (German).
Changes from the draft
What this portal defines differently from the discussion draft of the user meeting, and why. All of it is a proposal to Christin Bartlog and Zoe Geiß; none of it is binding without their decision.
| In the draft | Here | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Result: lower endothelial cell loss* | Lower endothelial cell loss in studies*, footnote Tanev 2016 and Zbiba 2023 | RCT 2024 not significant, “result” asserts causality |
| Precise and gentle; P = Precise | “Precise” removed, reassign the P or give up the acronym | No data on precision, confusion with the femtosecond laser |
| Your premium lens deserves a gentle procedure. | For every lens. Without ultrasound. (proposal) | Link to an out-of-pocket service, efficacy promise |
| Gentle on the eye. | Stays as an attitude claim pending review; safe variant “Without ultrasound. With laser.” | Efficacy claim without a measurable quantity |
| No vibration, no thermal stress | No ultrasonic oscillation of the needle, no ultrasonic heat at the incision | Only this is substantiated |
| For cataract and presbyopia | For cataract and for lens exchange in presbyopia | Presbyopia is corrected by the lens, not by the laser |
| NanoPURE pro as an out-of-pocket tier | Put up for decision; name the lens choice separately | Impression of a better operation, professional law |
| Roles: users use the materials | Plus brand license agreement and approval process per version | MDR Art. 7, liability, revocation |
| Outlook: feedback, concept, pilot, rollout | Step 0 before that: trademark search and name decision | EU trademark in class 10, domains taken |
| Name: “How do you like NanoPURE?” | Name the risk openly, put alternatives up for discussion | As long as nothing has been printed |
Open items
- Keep or change the name. Decision rests with A.R.C. Laser in view of the EU trademark in class 10 and the taken domains, see Trademark check. Attorney search before the pilot.
- Operating manual Rev. 2 as an actual file (the files on hand are placeholders): intended purpose verbatim, indications, technical data (pulse duration 4, 5 or 7 ns, repetition rate 10 or 25 Hz), laser class, warnings.
- Regulatory status: MDD or MDR certificate, notified body, validity; FDA 510(k) yes or no (sources contradict each other). Does the intended purpose cover refractive lens exchange? Otherwise remove “presbyopia” (MDR Art. 7(d)).
- Study footnotes. Recommendation Tanev 2016 and Zbiba 2023, plus Sauder 2024 with a note on the non-significant endpoint. The Healio figure (2.1 % versus 7.2 %) not in patient material. Obtain the full texts of Augenspiegel 2014 and 2018.
- Conflicts of interest of the cited authors to be disclosed (Section 6 HWG, credibility).
- “pro” tier: keep or abandon; if kept, clear the wording in advance with an attorney and a state medical association.
- Physician quotations and patient testimonials: which are dated, approved in writing and free of efficacy claims? Approval process with consent.
- Physician finder: listing criteria, disclaimer, no fee. Clarify the relationship to nanolaser.de: replace, supplement or subordinate. Two patient brands side by side make no sense.
- Brand license agreement per practice drafted by an attorney; budget and responsible persons for HWG, MDR and trademark review.
- Compatibility list of phaco systems from product management.
- Photo production for the four motif worlds. Until then, no illustrations or AI images in print.
- Pantone values and press proof for navy and petrol.
- English version of this portal under /en/: this page, to be kept in step with the German version.
- Practice package: templates for roll-up, brochure, website module and social media as editable files.
